We’re building a culture of discipleship at Shirley Hills.
The word “disciple” simply means a follower or student, one who spends time with, studies, and models his or her life after the master, or teacher. A disciple of Jesus is thus committed to becoming more like Him through obeying Him, serving His purposes, embracing His values, and sharing His message with others. Becoming a disciple is an intentional process for the individual believer, but we believe it cannot fully be realized outside loving, authentic community that seeks each other’s growth, maturity, and deepest life in Christ. The goal is that this intentional process becomes a repeatable process where mature disciples disciple others.
The mission of SHBC is that we as a church LOVE, GROW, and SEND. These are all important aspects of discipleship and all aspects that we believe are encouraged and cultivated in a D-Group (Discipleship Group). The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone, but in a community of people (disciples) growing together to be like their master.
